butterfly BIRD WATCHING
There are 421 documented species of birds in Montana. Stillwaters presents great opportunities for both the ardent birder and the casual observer. On any given day you can expect to see a wide-variety birds. Hawks and eagles soar high overhead, Great blue heron fish the river and backwaters alongside kingfisher and osprey. Hummingbirds feed on the wild clematis, nighthawks and swallows pluck insects from the sky. A variety of waterfowl such as teal, mallards, and goldeneye whistle by with occasional quacks.
Flocks of geese resonate in a lonely echo across the valley. Pileated woodpeckers and flickers hammer on trees, meadowlarks call out their song while ringneck phesants crow and flap. All of these winged creatures seem to come together in a symphony of solitude.
